Philippines:February 23, 2009: NO CLASS for private and publics schools
Edsa 1 celebrates the peaceful and bloodless ouster of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Former President Corazon Aquino was installed into office by the popular uprising that began on Feb. 22 and ended on Feb. 25.
In 2007, President Arroyo signed into law Republic Act 9242 or an “Act Rationalizing the Celebration of National Holidays.” For movable holidays, the President shall issue a proclamation at least six months prior to the holiday concerned stating the specific date that shall be declared as a non-working day.
The school holiday was seen as a compromise in the face of criticism that this would be the first time the country would not have a non-working holiday to commemorate Edsa 1 amid the clamor of the private sector for lesser holidays that reduce productivity and increase costs.

Pinoy Smart Saving Tips
One of that interest me most is the book of Mr. Alvin T. Tabañag,
The 12 Steps to Build Wealth are the following:
1. Understands and overcome the obstacles of building wealth.
2. Know what you want and dream big.
3. Find out what you are and what you have.
4. Making saving a lifelong habit.
5. Spend your money wisely.
6. Get out and stay out of debt.
7. Find ways to earn more and to save more.
8. Prepare for life's financial challenges.
9. Plan for a hassle free and comfortable retirement.
10. Grow your money through smart investing.
11. Take care of health to enjoy your wealth.
12. Share your blessings and receive more good things.
There are two strategy in spending wisely that can teach us about money. The "save and buy strategy" and the "trial system".
The save and buy strategy, he says if we want something like a appliance and we don't have enough money to buy it, even if we have credit card to charge it, we will not immediately purchase the said appliances until we have enough savings to pay for it. He even says that " it is much satisfying if we bought something that we do not regret buying because we're thinking of how we're gonna pay for it."
The trial systems is applicable if were planning of buying a car through bank financing, which has a monthly installment. He says we should try first to remove the monthly installment from our income at least for six months before we should buy that car. Example is, if the monthly installment isP20,000.00, we should try and live for 6 months without it and if after our assigned time frame and we can do without it then its time to buy it, by this time we'll have extra money for downpayment and other expenses.
Amazing Race: Don't Let a Cheese Hit Me!
The 14th Season of the Amazing Race started yesterday, February 15, 2009 with a title "Don't let a cheese hit me".
The race started in California, riding the military choppers and on the tarmac they met Pil Keoghan. Their first destination was Switzerland, their first detour, one member of each team has to bungee jump on the Versazca Dam, a 70 story bungee jump and 2nd highest in the world. It is more terrifying than usual since it was right up against a mass of concrete.
But the falling wasn't over. For the second task, the teams had to trudge up a steep, muddy hill with antique racks for carrying cheese, then carry 200 pounds of cheese (in 50-pound wheels) back down the hill. These racks weren't up to the task; as the contestants fell (which just about everyone did), the racks splintered into pieces.Whenever that happened, the wheels of cheese usually got loose too, and then barreled down the hill at an astonishing rate. It didn't look like much fun to do, but watching as people fell and cheese went awry was hilarious. One contestant even commented " please don't let me the cheese hit me". They can do anything just as long that they can pile up the 200 pounds cheese. Married couple Linda and Steve Cole has to resort to pulling the cheese downhill in sitting position.
“A lot of people think deaf people can’t do things, but the deaf can do it. I just want to show people that deaf people can do it.” Luke said as he and her mother win the first leg of the race. While Jennifer and Preston got eliminated by a foot race between Christy and Jodi.
To those who miss the pilot episode there will be a replay on February 20, 2009, Travel Channel at 8:00pm and on February 20, 12:00am.
Watch out for the next episode, "Your target is your partner's face"(Germany) february 22, 2009 at CBS, 8:00pm.
Amazing Race Season 14: Teams Revealed
CBS announced Monday the 11 new teams for the 14th edition of its Emmy Award-winning The Amazing Race which will premiere at 8 p.m. Feb. 15, 2009.
An air of secrecy surrounds these latest season of multiple Emmy award-winning hit reality series. Even host Phil Keoghan has remained cryptic about the latest season, not revealing much about who the teams are and where they will be setting off to unlike the recent past seasons. With the teams departing from the United States for the 14th time running, the destinations are bound to get more exotic and the challenges more exciting.
The group features stuntmen brothers, flight attendants, a brother and sister who are Harvard-educated lawyers and a feature film writer/producer/actor and his father.
This season the contestants will travel 40,000 miles in just 22 days to earn the cool $1 million. And in a “TAR” first, teams will travel to Romania and Siberia.

Concert of Rihanna in Malaysia: Postponed!!!
Singer Rihanna postponed a scheduled concert in Malaysia on Tuesday after the recent scandal in grammy awards.
Police booked Chris Brown on Sunday for investigation of making a criminal threat after a woman accused him of assaulting her the night before the Grammy Awards.
Police have not publicly said that Rihanna, whose hit songs include "Umbrella" and "Disturbia," was the victim of Brown's attack early Sunday morning ahead of the Grammy awards, where they were both scheduled to perform.
The incident occurred in Brown's car, and celebrity websites and magazines have said Brown left the scene and police found Rihanna, 20, suffering from a bloody nose, split lip and bite marks in the vehicle. She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, but later released on US$50,000 bail.
Pineapple Concerts-Malaysian based producers said in a statement on its website that "in light of recent events involving Rihanna" a new date for the concert will be set within two weeks.
Hundred of Dolphins Invade the Shore of Bataan Philippines
Early tuesday morning, the townfolks of Bataan were amazed by the sight of hundreds of dolphins near the beaches.
Local officials say although it is not unprecedented, it is the first time such a huge number of dolphins have beached themselves — an estimated 400 to 500, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
Fishermen and volunteers have been able to successfully guide most, if not all, of the dolphins back to the open sea, as search and rescue vessels of the Coast Guard continue to patrol the area.
There were three which did'nt make it and Dr. Mundita Lim, director of the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau (PAWB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and veterinarians from the Ocean Adventure in Subic Freeport and the bureau conducted an initial necropsy of the remains.
The doctors determined that the marine mammals might have drowned after failing to extricate themselves from the fishing nets or baklad.
There are many possible reasons why these dolphins went near shallow waters of Bataan.
One veterinarian says it is possible that they get lost from north going towards South China Sea.
Another says a strong seaquake may have damaged the eardrums while diving for food. A damaged eardrums will lose their sense of direction and disoriented dolphins.
Another possibility is that a school of dolphins was following their sick leader.
Whatever the true reasons of these phenomenon, one thing is sure our sea creatures are now disturbed by what is happening in our world.
Maybe we should now be earth conscious because if will not start now, we might lose the world we live in......

Symptoms of a Heart Stroke
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue..
If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.
Remember the first three letters...STR it can save lives!!!

Why You Should Try Online Dating?
The decision to try online dating is often a very difficult one for some people. In the past, dating events, personal ads and online dating carried a certain stigma, that of the sad, lonely dater who could not find anyone to go out with in normal life.
Well guess what? More and more, people are realizing that it is just not that easy to find people to go out with. Whether you are searching for a new friend or a long term relationship, it is not as easy as it used to be to find that special someone.
Thankfully, times have changed as people have realized just how much choice and variety is out there. Your potential life mate could live across the street or on the other side of the world! The traditional places to meet dates just do not work for some.
Online dating has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for many who find themselves overwhelmed by the time and financial commitments demanded by traditional dating.
Here are few of the advantages of Online Dating:
1. From the comfort of your own home and on your own time, you can meet more people online in one night than would have been possible in an entire week of traditional dating.
2. Online dating also offers the distinct advantage of allowing you to pick and choose through potential matches based on their profiles – even before contacting them to let them know you are interested. You can learn the very basics that will allow you to decide if you may choose to get to know a certain person further.
3. Your online personal is posted so that others who might share your interests can get in touch with you. What makes online dating a truly unique experience is the safety that comes with the territory – unless you decide to share your personal details, you are anonymous to potential matches. You can take as little or as much time as you are comfortable with to get to know a person online before deciding to meet in person.
This format allows you to decide – without wasting money on movies; without sitting through awkward, quiet dinners – if you really have a connection with a person before investing more of yourself in the relationship.
This is especially important as so many people find that, with their other life commitments, they just do not have much of themselves left to invest in something that might not work.
Online dating drastically increases your chances of getting it right on that first face to face meeting. Instead of meeting someone for the first time and sitting through three, five, or even ten dates before you really get an idea of what they are all about, you can chat with them online for weeks before taking that next step.
The idea that you can not really get to know someone online is false; if a person is going to be deceptive about who they truly are, they will do it person, on the phone, or on the computer. Talking with them over a period of time online allows you to ask the questions you need to know upfront, without the pressure of a face-to-face meeting.
Take advantage of a dating format that allows you to search through profiles based on numerous personal traits, likes and dislikes that enable you to know people more intimately in a single viewing than you might after two or three dates. Have fun meeting new friends and chatting with potential love interests from the privacy and safety of your own home.
Online dating is not a fad or a trend that will disappear anytime soon. This is where singles are finding success in friendship and love. So make sure you give it a try because you have nothing to lose!
